Reading Notes: Week 10 Part A
THE CHILDHOOD OF KRISHNA
Growing up, Lord Krishna was a mischievous kid that loved to steal butter from the neighbours. However, Krishna did not have a normal childhood. His maternal uncle- Kansa was hell bent on killing him, as he believed that Krishna would be the end of him. Kansa sent several demons to Vrindavan to end Krishna. Each time, Krishna would slay the demon and tales of his glory would spread around the town. One such demon was Putana. She came to Vrindavan to kill young Krishna and ended up dead.
THE YOUTH OF KRISHNA
King Kansa believed that killing Balarama would torment Krishna and sent one of the strongest demons on earth, Pralambha to kill him. The demon took the form of a deer and wooed the boys into playing a game. He changed forms after the game and took Balarama to the forest with great speed and Krishna wasn't able to catch him. Balarama ended up crushing the demon's skull and killing him without Krishna's help. Kansa decided to leave the two boys alone for longer and they forgot about their troubles.
